Faded Threads Draft 1 - Chapter 4

CHAPTER 4 It turned out, she had to give exams but was not a proper student. She could live with that. Private candidate, she'd been told. Rather annoying that she hadn't been told earlier, but she could live with it. Selene flipped back a number of pages in her chemistry book. Formulas, redox reactions, ionic bonds…..what was she doing again? She looked up, trying to clear her head. She found the same black haired girl from earlier staring at her. “Do you need something?” Selene called. The girl bolted. She put her book aside and started going through the records. Two students were a few days overdue. Time constraints, or had they forgotten? The clock struck three. She packed up, and went outside to wait for Elena. Soon enough, a girl with light brown hair in two buns moved towards her. “Helllooooo,” Elena greeted. “Sorry I'm late, Lyra needed help with….an essay.” “An essay?” “An essay.” Selene walked beside her. “Sooo….how are you doing as librarian?” Elena asked. “Pret...

Updates!

I just dropped three chapters and vanished. I am working on chapter 4, in case anyone was wondering. The issue is that the story is going too fast so chapter 4 will be something less plot heavy because the next major event is quite major and sets up the entire plot. Thank you for reading my three silly chapters! Also I can't figure out how to use adjectives right now 🫠 Please leave comments even if they're negative criticism.

Faded Threads Draft 1 - Chapter 3

Lyra collapsed into her chair, blankly staring at the wall. What even was the point anymore? All the efforts she put in to be the top student, to be the best, were worth nothing. Her father still told her and Orion to work harder. How could they? She wanted to sleep, and to hell with her schoolwork. But she couldn't, she couldn't stop being top student. She unwillingly started her work. Unfortunately, focus wasn't coming to her. Her gaze drifted to a small lavender rabbit plush, which she, as a little girl, had named Cloud. Orion had a matching one in powder blue, he'd called it Clover. They'd had them since their third birthdays. Before their father started this. She rubbed at her eyes, trying to vanish the hints of tears that were appearing. She looked back. There was no rabbit. Instead, there was a girl about her age, with short, fluffy, lavender hair, light skin, and magenta eyes that matched her own. She wore a dark blue dress and leggings. Most interestingly, ...

Faded Threads Draft 1 - Chapter 2

SELENE CHAPTER 2 It was a white room with a purple trim, a twin bed, a dresser, and a closet. It was completely bare otherwise. I guess they didn't expect this to happen .  She couldn't see much of the world outside the window, her vision of it was blurry. She caught sight of herself in a mirror. Pale white lines zigzagged on her face, forming patterns of cracked bisque. Suddenly, the white was replaced with a bright, glowing, violet, the same colour as her eyes, reminiscent of the cold, mended, unglazed porcelain. It faded, back to a pale white, barely visible on her skin. She then noticed how dark it was, how her eyelids were drooping shut. I should sleep. The next day they discovered she was perfectly healthy, save for being nearsighted, and her biological age was sixteen. They also decided she was to take up the role of librarian at Elena's school. “Are we not being a bit fast?” Elena had asked. Her parents just shrugged and told her it would otherwise raise suspicion....

Faded Threads Draft 1 - Chapter 1

ELENA CHAPTER 1 That stupid bisque doll. She had brought in the stupid thing – she had had it for years, it was a gift and, handmade the clothes– in art class for a project. The class had gone silent, and not in the good way. No one had come close to her since. Except Orion and Lyra, no one had even looked at her. Is it really that wrong? Elena looked at the porcelain doll on her shelf. Dark hair in a long bob, white porcelain skin, so different from her, apart from bright purple eyes. It was dressed in a collared blue shirt and black trousers. It was such a beautiful doll. It had to go. She held the doll by its waist and ran out to the back of the house. Not anymore. The sun was bright in the evening, and it temporarily blinded her. She wasn't watching where she was going, and dropped the doll. OH MY GOD WHAT DID I DO? She had dropped the doll. Her favourite childhood doll. And it must have broken! WHY DO I HAVE TO BE SO IMPULSIVE? A bright flash of bright purple light came from...
